Year of the Horse

The Chinese character for horse [馬] is a classic pictogram that evolved from a galloping horse, with its distinctive flowing mane and trotting hooves. May the dashing horse bring you good luck in the Year of the Horse.

These papercuttings are machine-made reproductions, using traditional Chinese red paper to maintain its authentic texture and unmistakable colour. Part of the charm of this material lies in its small imperfections, variegated colour, and the way it fades over the course of the year. 

A bespoke small-batch laser-cutting process was developed to preserve the integrity of the delicate material. The paper is reinforced with a recycled card backing, made from 80% post-consumer waste, for improved durability.

剪紙作品由機器複製，採用傳統中式紅紙，保留傳統剪紙藝術品嘅啞光質感同獨特暗紅色。呢種紙質顏色或深或淺，有少少瑕疵，亦會受時間洗禮而褪色。正因為呢啲缺陷美嘅存在，每張作品都係獨一無二。

傳統中式紅紙非常精緻易爛，設計師研發咗一套雷射切割工序作小批量客製，以保留紅紙嘅質感同韻味。每張紅紙都採用80%循環再造咭紙作為底紙加強承托力，保留傳統同時增加耐用性。

Papertecture創辦人曹晉愷係一位香港建築師及藝術家。現居於一級歷史建築灣仔藍屋，並以此為剪紙工作室，研究傳統紙藝創作。歡迎各類工作坊、商業合作或客製化藝術品洽談。
