Hong Kong Heritage Maps [Premium Poster]
Hong Kong Heritage Maps [Premium Poster]
A pair of printed poster maps providing an overview of Hong Kong’s most significant historical heritage sites, unofficially consolidating information from the Antiquities & Monuments Office and Antiquities Advisory Board. Draw ideas from these checklists for your next urban or countryside adventure in Hong Kong!
Historic buildings in Hong Kong can be designated Grade I [highest], Grade II, Grade III or Nil Grade. Declared Monument status can be additionally assigned with or without grading.
The Declared Monuments Map [Pink] includes classic must-see sites such as Tai Kwun, Lin Fa Temple, and Bronze Age rock carvings. The Grade I Historic Buildings Map [Blue] will contain more hidden gems such as the Bluehouse, Ex-Yaumati Service Reservoir, and Ladder Street. In this August 2024 edition, the Declared Monuments Map has 134 sites while the Grade I Historic Buildings Map contains 193 sites, grouped into 144 clusters. Only 38 buildings appear on both maps, so you might want to get both to expand your horizons!
Sites are arranged spatially across a vividly shaded satellite map, providing key information including photographs, bilingual names, locations and years of completion. Each site is colour-coded by type such as Temples, Residential Homes, Schools, etc. Record your progress as you check off the sites you have visited.
The posters can be put up as they are, using non-staining adhesive tape or putty. They may be purchased by themselves in a cardboard tube or paired with an aluminium frame, available in matte black or matte white. The frames have an acrylic cover and an openable side that allows you to change the poster without dismounting it. The posters will also fit any standard 50x70cm frames from Ikea or other retailers.

About the Designer
These maps were designed by Nick Tsao, founder of Papertecture. Nick is an architect and papercutting artist based in Hong Kong, currently living in the historic Wanchai Bluehouse. From his personal experience, he found online sources challenging for exploration in more remote areas of Hong Kong, giving inspiration to this map. He reorganised information from official sources and made the first edition in 2018 to share with friends. In 2024, he finally decided to update and publish them as posters so that they can be enjoyed by fellow enthusiasts.
Remarks
Place the poster indoors and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent discolouration.
Maps were designed in August 2024 based on the official lists of Declared Monuments and Grade I Historic Buildings maintained by the Antiquities & Monuments Office. Any additional designations as a result of Antiquities Advisory Board’s quarterly meetings after August 2024 will not be reflected. Updated versions of the map may be released periodically.
Building types are categorised based on the designer’s interpretation and do not reflect any official designations. Some building names, locations and completion dates have been shortened or simplified for formatting purposes.
